Not sure how many of you out there are familiar with the 501st, the big Star Wars Charity group that requires you to have a costume to be a member. There website is here: http://www.501st.com/ and I encourage anyone that has major questions about them to read about them there. I’ve ordered my green lekku (head-tails) for Cesi “Doc” Eirriss (yes, I swear I’m actually working on that costume still!) and I thought to myself “Self, we need to have SOME kind of Star Wars costume that’s easier to put on than Cesi.”
So I’m poking about and I find this:
Oh HO! What is this? A pin-up Star Wars costume? At first I thought it was just a mash-up or something, but then I realized that they had created a USO themed group designed to support the people in costumes! Girls (and even some guys) in a uniform helping at charity events, conventions, etc., dressed in a military-esque style from the 40s!!! Called the Imperial Service Organization (or the Republic Service Organization for the Rebel Legion) you simply put the outfit together and attend events. This was definitely my style.
I followed the instructions on the ISO/RSO facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/RSOrg/) and bought myself a Dickie’s khaki-colored short sleeve shirt off of Amazon, which I hand-sewed my new ISO patch to with black thread. (I centered it on the crease on the right sleeve, because the shirt sleeve isn’t centered on a seam.)
I removed both breast pockets, and shortened the shirt. I have to take in the back a bit because its not form fitting at all and doesn’t show off my curves the way I want it to. (Pictures will be up soon, I promise!)
For undergarments I purchased a flesh-toned retro bullet-shaped bra from here:http://www.whatkatiedid.com/en_us/ although I’m not sure I like how it fits. It really needs a girdle or something with it. Beautiful bra, worth the money (well constructed) but I’m going to wear a corset underneath the shirt to get the proper silhouette until I figure out the retro stuff.
For my shoes I bought black Schoolgirl styled heels from Pleasers through my store. They are shiny and Mary-Jane style.
A simple black A-line skirt from Old Navy was a lucky find. It was the last one and it fit perfectly (Yay for stores having staple items for school uniforms at the moment, right?).
Last but not least, black nylons with a seam down the back from here: http://www.essentialapparel.com. I purchased regular nylons in a plus size because my thighs are pretty thick (I blame water-polo in my formative years…) If your garters don’t show, you could wear a girdle with thigh-highs.
I’ll finish altering the shirt this weekend, pretty myself up with a classic makeup look and work on my victory rolls! Nearly finished with this one! Stay tuned for the finished look, as I’ll be putting on my local 501st patch and then taking photos.
