End of the month update!

#1 update for today, I’ve started working out again. I’m a veteran, and I finally got my health benefits worked out, and my new doctor informed me that yes, of course, I’ve gained a lot of weight, and yes, of course, my cholesterol is too high. My sister wanted to start working out too anyways (She works at a gym and she gets to take guests to work out with her! YAY!) so today we started off slow and did 10 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes on the treadmill (very fast walking for most of it) And that winded me pretty badly. So we know that this is long overdue. For someone who used to run/walk at least 20 miles a week among other exercising, today was a travesty. We sat in the sauna for a bit and did some weight lifting with legs and called it quits with some stretches. I doubt I’m going to hurt in the morning, but I might. I’m not used to it anymore. I have a really fun Star Wars dancing game for the Xbox Kinect, so I think I’m going to do that again too. Gym twice a week with sister, dance aerobics and zumba Kinect for other days. Lets get me back down to 180 lbs! YEAH!

Positives: First nutritionist appointment I weighed 212 lbs. Over a month all I changed was diet, I added a substantial amount of vegetables and cut down on the eating out at Red Robin. Also cut down on red meat a great deal, so even when we DO go to Red Robin, its chicken instead of Burger. When I stepped on the scale for the nutritionist after a month, I wasn’t hopeful and I felt gross that day, but I had lost 2 lbs. So YAY! That’s WITHOUT working out. This month I’m going to continue the better diet and add in the gym time, and hopefully it will all come together. I want to be 180 lbs. by Comic-con. (March 2015, about 5 months. I totally believe this is doable. I want to be back down to a comfortable size 10 jeans if nothing else!)

Now the costume updates:

So what are Lekku you ask? They are a twi’leks head-tails! What’s a Twi’lek? DO I HAVE TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING? Ok ok, here, PICTURE time!
Lekku pointed outThe head tails that the arrows are pointing at are known as the lekku. AND I HAVE SOME NOW! YAYAYYYYAYAYAYAYAYAYWEOVINERIONEFVEIVMEWJVE :: wargarble goes on:: Thanks to http://www.twilekparadise.com/ I have these beautiful green “Daesha” style headtails:

I’m so excited right now. The first quest is to find body-paint that will match them. The lekku are green but with an olive tinge, so more on the yellow side. I’m going to see if I can work with Mehron paradise paints and get them to work. The lime is too bright but the light green isn’t yellow enough. We’ll see! I’m going to practice blocking out my eyebrows with synwax, and shading/contouring my face once I have the base-color figured out. I don’t want to be a flat green! I’m going to look into alcohol based paints too.

After that, I will be making the helmet liner. Then on to making a helmet! My good friend Joey is going to help me fabricate one specifically for a Twi’lek.

I’m still on the search for a good set of Jackboots. I’ve found a couple sites with boots my size (men’s size 6/6.5) but I haven’t decided on one yet. I have the fabric for the coveralls and strapping already. So yeah, PSYCHED!

I’m daytripping to Emerald City Comic-con this go-around (price went up again… ugh). I may be going as the Greek Goddess of Chaos. But we’ll see. More on that later.

Another band finished!

This lovely band from Applesies and Fox Noses I started a couple weeks ago is finally finished! Instead of just two colors, I made the S’s down the center green, and the borders blue. The weft thread is the white of the background color.

This will make an excellent trim for my Manbeast. I’m going to use it on a shirt for him, as its in his SCA device’s colors. I can’t wait to make a shirt for him and add this to it!

Finished RSO/ISO Gal!

Short and to the point! Here she is, my RSO/ISO gal, all done!

And so there you have it! Not too hard. I had fun doing this, especially because I got to do my hair and makeup with a friend.

Not sure how many of you out there are familiar with the 501st, the big Star Wars Charity group that requires you to have a costume to be a member. There website is here: http://www.501st.com/ and I encourage anyone that has major questions about them to read about them there. I’ve ordered my green lekku (head-tails) for Cesi “Doc” Eirriss (yes, I swear I’m actually working on that costume still!) and I thought to myself “Self, we need to have SOME kind of Star Wars costume that’s easier to put on than Cesi.”

So I’m poking about and I find this:

ISO poster

Oh HO! What is this? A pin-up Star Wars costume? At first I thought it was just a mash-up or something, but then I realized that they had created a USO themed group designed to support the people in costumes! Girls (and even some guys) in a uniform helping at charity events, conventions, etc., dressed in a military-esque style from the 40s!!! Called the Imperial Service Organization (or the Republic Service Organization for the Rebel Legion) you simply put the outfit together and attend events. This was definitely my style.

ISO GalsI followed the instructions on the ISO/RSO facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/RSOrg/) and bought myself a Dickie’s khaki-colored short sleeve shirt off of Amazon, which I hand-sewed my new ISO patch to with black thread. (I centered it on the crease on the right sleeve, because the shirt sleeve isn’t centered on a seam.)

I removed both breast pockets, and shortened the shirt. I have to take in the back a bit because its not form fitting at all and doesn’t show off my curves the way I want it to. (Pictures will be up soon, I promise!)

For undergarments I purchased a flesh-toned retro bullet-shaped bra from here:http://www.whatkatiedid.com/en_us/ although I’m not sure I like how it fits. It really needs a girdle or something with it. Beautiful bra, worth the money (well constructed) but I’m going to wear a corset underneath the shirt to get the proper silhouette until I figure out the retro stuff.

For my shoes I bought black Schoolgirl styled heels from Pleasers through my store. They are shiny and Mary-Jane style.

A simple black A-line skirt from Old Navy was a lucky find. It was the last one and it fit perfectly (Yay for stores having staple items for school uniforms at the moment, right?).

Last but not least, black nylons with a seam down the back from here: http://www.essentialapparel.com. I purchased regular nylons in a plus size because my thighs are pretty thick (I blame water-polo in my formative years…) If your garters don’t show, you could wear a girdle with thigh-highs.

I’ll finish altering the shirt this weekend, pretty myself up with a classic makeup look and work on my victory rolls! Nearly finished with this one! Stay tuned for the finished look, as I’ll be putting on my local 501st patch and then taking photos.
